Accountability and accessibility are an incredibly important part of this yoga community. Sliding scale payment options are available for yoga classes.
Ashtanga yoga is a dynamic system to connect mind and body through breath and movement to lead to a deeper knowledge of self and the divine. It systematically uses a series of poses and the tristhana method (breath, shape, and focus point) to benefit the student's whole being.
Ashtanga yoga was first taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and is carried on by his grandson, Sharath Jois in Mysore India. It is important to acknowledge the abuse of power that has occurred in the past so that it is not repeated. I am grateful to see the Ashtanga community continue to develop in to a system of self care and self study.
Each student practices at their own pace. The teacher offers individualized instruction and hands on assists. Students who are familiar with the Ashtanga series take their own practice. This is the traditional way to begin and allows the practice to be adjusted to fit any student.
The teacher leads the class through the primary series of Ashtanga yoga using the traditional sanskrit count. Each pose is held for 5 breathes with a specific breath and movement pattern to transition in and out of poses. Led class is a great way for students to learn the vinyasa and rhythm of the ashtanga yoga practice.
Yoga Nidra is a deep relaxation and rest technique using the practitioner's awareness and intent. Students may want to bring an extra layer for warmth or props you like additional support while resting.
Fauna began The Mysore Lab on March 1st 2015 as a place to practice the therapeutic aspects of the Ashtanga Yoga system.
Since that time Fauna has held space for Ashtangis in Charlotte NC at Okra Yoga, 8th Street Studio, with The Charlotte Ashtanga Collective, and now at Open Door Studios.
